Hello and a warm and fond welcome to all Bliss fans, friends and customers.
Its been some months now since we closed the doors at our original Lonsdale Street 'home' and for us it has been a period of consolidation and tying up loose ends. In many ways the start of the new financial year really does mark a new phase in the whole Bliss story! We have gone through the transition to a web based business and we need to thank all of those customers new and old who have supported us through the transition. With over 2000 happy deliveries from our web store, we are certain we are on the right track there. Some people were concerned that we would be harder to contact being web based, but we are available on the phone most business hours, and if you cant get us directly, leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. This seems to be working satisfactorily so far.

MAUREEN'S NEWS
Maureen's weekly column in The Sunday Age ('M' magazine), ABOUT LAST NIGHT has now been going for almost 3 years, and she is enjoying it immensely. If you would like to submit a question, simply send an email to asklastnight@gmail.com. I would especially welcome questions from members of the gay / lesbian / bisexual / transgenedered community, as the column has a very heterosexual focus at the moment.
Maureen also continues to speak to a variety of groups. This year she has spoken to breast cancer survivors at the Royal Women's Hospital, and she is looking forward to talking to the oncology nurses in the near future. If any of you belong to groups who require speakers please keep Maureen in mind.
Maureen was delighted to be invited to be a judge on Australia's Mentally sexy Dad competion. (see below).
Australia's Most Mentally Sexy Dad competition
The Search For Australia's Most Mentally Sexy Dad is a competition, which is running through till October 2010. Catherine Deveny, Dr. Rebecca Harris and Reserviour Mum will join Maureen as judges.
In a nutshell the competition is promoting flexibility and options for families. This is something that the media is not very good at. Advertising, news reports etc often stereotype men into the traditional 'provider' role and we reject that idea and find it not only limiting to men, but also limiting to women and families. We think it's a really positive message that is very topical in a time where many families are challenged by financial stress and need more options in how to manage themselves and their lives.
The serious and positive side of the competition is that it is challenging gender role stereotypes at the same time that it's promoting good Dads and husbands. Without stating it directly the underlying message is that it is okay, normal and positive for Dads to do more with the housework and the kids, whether that be as a full time stay at home Dad, a part time working Dad or a full time working Dad. On the flipside we're promoting strong women and also putting forward the message that it is just as normal and okay for mothers to work and pursue a career if that's what works best for their family.
The competition is really getting a great deal of media interest and is worth supporting and promoting at the grass roots level. Maybe you have someone to nominate?
